Party
It’s saturday night in Santa Barbara and school is done for the year. Everyone is headed to the same party. Or at least it seems that way. The place is packed. The beer is flowing. Simple, right? But for 11 different people the motives are way more complicated. As each character takes a turn and tells his or her story – one character per chapter – the eleven individuals intersect, and reconnect, collide, and combine in ways that none of them ever saw coming.
Examining friendship, dating, racism, sex, loss, and parents who truly don’t get it, PARTY invites you to join in the fun and drama of the biggest event of the year. Everyone’s invited. See you there!
THE CAST
Beckett - a painfully shy girl who has lost both parents in different ways, and is considering dropping out of school. Attends the party to see if anyone even knows her name.
“I’m the girl nobody knows until she commits suicide. Then suddenly everyone had a class with her. You know the one I mean.”
Morrigan – a sassy sort of brat who’s also lost both parents…even though they all still live together. Sneaks out to the party to see if Mom and Dad even notice.
“I weigh about a buck-five soaking wet, even when I’m wearing my favorite boots, and my pirate name would be something like Captain Lackboobs.”
Tommy – a laid-back guy wanting to protect his best friend from getting emotionally crushed (any more than he has already) by his ex-girlfriend.
“When a guy gets his heart torn in half, he’s capable of doing a lot of stupid things.”
Brent – a loudmouth skate-punk who’s sick of hearing his best friend talk about “the girl of his dreams”. He attends the party as a graduated senior intent on drinking the night away, and getting his buddy to Shut. Up.
“What’re you gonna do? Give her a piggy-back ride to your house? You got no car, man. How douche is that?”
Daniel – friends with Tommy, Josh, and Ryan; Daniel’s goal is to get Ashley’s phone number before the night is over…if he can stay sober enough.
“I went for a beer and pretended to fumble with the cap. At least, I think I was pretending…”
Azize – a “brainiac Turk pizza delivery boy!” Azize is also a comic-book fan and shares his comics with Beckett; he’s here simply to make new friends. Unfortunately, his anger often speaks first.
“Maybe this is why Ata tells me to forgive. Because I would live longer.”
Ryan – the guy who can’t keep zipped-up if his life depended on it. Faced with a tough sexual scenario, he tries to do the right thing, and ends up making matters worse.
“I’d had an eye on her for a few weeks, and I picked her right away as someone who’d put out.”
Anthony – formerly the all-star receiver in high school, Anthony’s brother’s recent return from an overseas war has destroyed his football playing capabilities, and he unleashes his rage against an unfortunate target.
“I touch my head in the back. Comes back bloody. Like my knuckles.”
Josh - has a “chat” with God after running into his ex-. He leaves the party early, but succeeds only in attracting the attention of the police…and his ex-’s parents.
“I was trying to do the right thing, do what you said, and this is what I get? Well you know what? Piss. Off.”
Max – Brent’s best friend, who’s wasted three years never talking to the one girl he always loved. But maybe tonight, if he’s lucky…
“I try hard to see through her skull and find the joke. Is she laughin’ at me? Of course she is.”
Ashley – Morrigan’s best friend, she balances Morry’s craziness with a relaxed take on life; that is, until her former best friend arrives unannounced and confesses a secret that will ultimately change all three girls forever.
“Some really messed-up things happened, many of which you were directly or indirectly responsible for, so let’s just be cool, okay?”
