Tom is fun, energetic and gets the kids involved with his antics and stories of which they can relate to. You forget he’s not 16 when he’s talking to them and not at them. Tom’s passion and belief that young adults really can do anything comes across as well as the obvious knowledge he has for the craft. Every teacher and librarian I’ve escorted Tom to has been thrilled at the shared experience.

From teaching specialized classes on using theatre to improve dialogue in fiction, the first-novel publishing experience, or sharing his faith in every student’s potential, Tom brings more than twenty years of acting and directing experience to your classroom, library, or conference to entertain and educate.

I have listened to many authors give talks and workshops over the years, and HANDS DOWN Tom Leveen is one of the best I’ve ever heard.  He’s funny, organized, enthusiastic, knowledgeable–thoroughly engaging in every way.  His tips for using theater techniques to sharpen dialogue were spot-on and incredibly useful.  I would have been crazy jealous over what a great speaker he is if I hadn’t been enjoying myself so much!

SCHOOL VISITS

In the classroom or out, for students or adults or both, Tom’s unique blend of 22 years of theatre background plus YA novel writing experience guarantees a fun and educational time for all.  Appearance fees are negotiable. Grants from around the nation are often available to help fund some author visits, such as that offered by SCBWI.

Author Tom Leveen mesmerized Hamilton High students with his charm, charisma, and light-hearted humor when he joined us for our Teen Read Week program. Discussion about his debut teen novel PARTY inspired students to be true to themselves and to believe in their aspirations no matter what others say. Tom’s showmanship, energy, bustle, and buzz kept teens engaged and wondering, “When will he visit us again?” If you invite Tom for a visit, you and your students will not be disappointed!
